My opinion may be controversial, but I believe that every school from K-12 should teach the Holy Bible. For students of other religions, they can bring their own books too or have their own religious meetings. For students whose parents want to remain atheists, they have the right to not attend the Bible class if they choose.

My reasoning is simple and yet necessary; kids nowadays don’t have a moral foundation, and neither their schools nor parents teach them what’s right or wrong most of the time, because the parents are too busy working and the school teachers think that they have to teach only basic math and English, which are also important but they have become more like instructors  than mentors or adults whom kids can look up to and find answers from if they have moral questions.

Kids nowadays don’t have role models. They don’t have any mentors. They don’t have any moral ground to stand on. So instead, they look at each other for moral values, and their social acceptance has become their moral compass. If something is considered “cool” by their peers, it becomes their moral value.

The dangerous aspect of this type of Lord of Flies approach is that kids are terrible at deciding what’s right or wrong. This is the reason why so many kids join gangs, do drugs, carry guns, and other activities that would ruin their lives.

I am not saying we should force everyone to become Christians. But we should have the teachers teach moral values, and Christian Bible is the best source of Western value system whether one agrees with it or not.

As I said, we don’t have to force every kid to attend the Bible class. If you are of other religions, then you have your freedom of religion to pursue and study your own religion.

But what’s most important is that we as adults teach our kids moral values instead of just leaving them alone to figure out by themselves. Our society has too many sick things like drugs and guns that can ruin kids’ lives. It doesn’t matter if we have wars on drugs or wars on gangs. It will never be enough if our society has no strong value system.
